A Wedding Beneath the Stars

The vast majority of weddings take place during the day, but why? For the brides and grooms to be, why not host your ceremony and reception in the evening under the stars? There is no more romantic setting than by candle and moonlight. Whether it’s during the summer under the trees or winter tucked in a cozy chalet, an evening wedding is a beautiful alternative to the traditional daytime nuptials.
A night time wedding is the perfect idea for the budget-conscious couple. Because your event will essentially be in the dark, there is no need to overdo the decor. Simple accents like jasmine or lily flowers, glowing candles and tealights, and white furniture will compliment the night sky fabulously.
There are a variety of gorgeous venues perfect to host your ceremony and reception. During the summer months, look for a farm with a rustic barn, parks or open areas with plenty of space for a tented area, or beach or lakeside for a nice cool evening breeze. During the winter months, consider an open air conservatory or botanic gardens, or an old factory with large windows.
Lighting is of the utmost importance for an evening wedding. You are not only creating ambient light, but you are also creating atmospheric mood lighting for your guests to enjoy. Think about areas you will want to highlight, like the altar, receiving line, and of course the tables for the reception. Use tealight candles, lanterns, spotlights, and fairy lights. If you’re lucky enough to host a summer wedding beneath the stars, you will have some of the best lighting needed, free of charge!
Reflective surfaces are your friend for evening weddings. Mirrors, glass, water and metal objects will help to bounce light throughout your space. Consider using a venue that has large windows, industrial metal surfaces, or mirrored walls available to set the mood.
For favors, you could offer your guests candle favors, hurricane lamps, or even personalized flash lights to find their way home.
A night time wedding provides the perfect setting for a grand finale to your special day. You can provide guests with paper lanterns to set off into the night sky to mark the beginning of your new life. Set off fireworks for your guests to enjoy and to celebrate your I-Do’s. Or just by giving everyone traditional sparklers will provide a picture perfect end to your day.
