Hunger Games Wedding Inspiration

The Hunger Games exploded onto movie screens this past weekend, becoming one of the largest opening movie weekends of all time! Not surprising, given the fact that everyone’s been buzzing about the movie version of the fab book for months now (if you haven’t read it, it’s a great escape from all the wedding planning craziness!). So, is there a way to bring your love for The Hunger Games into your wedding day? The answer is a resounding yes! And one of the best ways to do that is to draw inspiration from the book’s “Girl On Fire” theme, using a fiery red to make a bold statement on your wedding day!
The color red is perfect for brides who want to stand out, as anything in red is sure to draw plenty of attention. Plus, it’s not hard to find lots of ways to bring this color into your day. When it comes to the wedding attire, bridesmaids will look gorgeous in red gowns, and you can match their dresses by adding a pretty red sash to your own wedding gown. Not to be outdone, your dudes will be looking particularly dapper in red ties against a white shirt and black or gray suits. Care for something a tad more whimsical? Dress all the guys in bright red socks or even red Chucks, and then throw on your own red high heels to match! Red is also the lipstick color of the moment, so put some bright red lipstick on your pucker and wear the trend right on your pout. (Red lipstick also makes your teeth look brighter – a win win!)
Red is synonymous with romance (and if you’ve read the book, despite the whole killing each other thing, there is also quite the awww inducing love story…but I won’t spoil it!), and what smells of romance more than red roses? Roses make an inexpensive option for your reception centerpieces, and they’ll look absolutely dazzling in your bouquet against your pretty white gown. Want to up the romance factor? Have your flower girl toss lots of lovely red petals down the aisle for an eye-catching entrance, and quite the photo op!
Red brings both drama and an elegance to your wedding day, making it the perfect color to bring into all of your décor. Make a statement by sending out bright red invitations, or go a little more subtle with white invites and red ink. Add a pretty red sash to your ceremony chairs, or take the fire red theme a little more literally and add red candles to all of your tables! Bring in red wedding favors to guarantee your wedding guests will remember your hot to trot wedding, and serve red cocktails and even red velvet cupcakes – yum! The only catch – you don’t want red to be your only color – a whole lotta red is a whole lotta look, so consider toning it down a bit with a bright white or black for a winter wedding, or a pretty yellow or pink to make the event a bit more summery.
Now that you have your theme, take a break from the wedding planning and go catch the movie! Happy Hunger Games!
