With “A Favor Against Hunger”, whenever a purchase is made on Partease.com (from now through December 31st 2010), 5% of the proceeds are donated to the non-profit organization Action Against Hunger. Each favor arrives with a ‘Thank You’ tag, noting that a portion of the proceeds from the favor have been donated.
According to the Wedding Report, an Arizona based wedding research firm, the average cost of a wedding in 2009 was $19,580. In the current economy it’s no wonder savvy brides and grooms are looking for ways to get the most out of their money spent. One major topic of conversation among these soon-to-be wedded couples is whether they should spend money on wedding favors, or whether they should instead donate to a worthy cause.
Donating in lieu of wedding favors is an admirable thing, and no doubt the best way to deliver the most money to your charity of choice. However, that still leaves guests without a token of appreciation when the day is done.
Wedding favors are important because they show guests how much you appreciate their support on one of the happiest days of your life. The wedding favors also serve as little reminders of the fun they had with you on that day. Giving small photo albums as your wedding favors would be a great example of this type of memento. Then guests can fill the album with their own personal photo memories from your event!
The fact of the matter is that many guests expect and look forward to receiving wedding favors. So it is a risky decision to forgo them altogether. This dilemma that couples are faced with is part of the reason we decided to launch “A Favor Against Hunger”. With this new program, brides and grooms can offer charity wedding favors to their wedding guests while still contributing to a life saving program.
We believe that collectively we can make a big difference if even a small portion of every wedding budget is donated to a worthy charity. That is just another reason why “A Favor Against Hunger” is so important to us. And it’s exactly why we have decided to donate a 5% of our proceeds, while still keeping our pricing very competitive.
Now let’s talk about the important stuff. The cause.
It can cost as little as $50 to provide the life-saving treatment needed to take a child from the brink of starvation and place him back on the road to health. But still, as many as 5 million children die from from hunger or hunger-related causes every year. Action Against Hunger’s mission is to reduce that number drastically. Here are some of the things they’re doing in an effort to achieve their goals:

- Dealing with Hunger – Inpatient programs include around-the-clock feeding and medical care for those in greatest need. Outpatient programs allow treatment at home with nutrient dense Ready-to-Use-Foods. With treatment, the majority of these women and children can return to health after about 30 days.
- Hunger Prevention – This is a major area of focus for Action Against Hunger. They work to provide communities with immediate as well as long term solutions. Some of the long term solutions include providing families with seeds and tools for farming, livestock and veterinary services, and assistance for small businesses.
- Water & Sanitation – An astonishing 2.5 billion people lack basic sanitation. Action Against Hunger is working to change that number by building latrines, hand washing stations and hygienic bathing facilities.

I’d like to leave you with one of the facts that I find very compelling on Action Against Hunger’s website: “The world produces more than enough food for everyone, but many people cannot access it.” It is a very simple statement but it seems to sum up the need this world has for an organization like Action Against Hunger.
We’re very excited to have partnered with such a respected organization in the fight against hunger. Even contributing a just small portion of that $19,580 wedding budget can make a huge difference in many people’s lives.

A very nice way to give back.
All businesses should do that!
