Rehearsal dinners give everyone who’s attending a wedding a chance to socialize and get to know each other before the big day. Hosting a rehearsal dinner is a big job and can be quite overwhelming. Here are some basic guidelines to point you in the right direction that will help get you started.
The first thing you need to do is choose a location, a caterer, and an appealing menu. Plan for the flowers, entertainment, and decorations, but keep in mind that the color scheme, theme, and wedding favors should differ than that of the actual wedding.
Invitations should be sent at least 4 weeks prior to the event, and don’t forget to get name tags and place cards for everyone who is to be in attendance. This will help everyone to get acquainted more easily. Another way to break the ice for everybody is to plan a game or activity that everyone can participate in.
After dinner, it is traditional for the host of the evening, usually the father of the groom, to offer a toast. This is then typically followed by toasts from the father of the bride, the groom, and any others who wish to do so.
This occasion can be used as an opportunity for the parents of the newlyweds to present their gifts. Other attendants sometimes give gifts at this time as well.
Wedding favors, decorations, food, entertainment, and invitations are the basics of a rehearsal dinner. Take things one step at a time, and the job will not seem so overwhelming.
