We all know weddings are one of the magical moments in life. And engagement parties are a great way of jump starting that magic. They are a venue for the couple to announce their special day and of introducing two families that through the bond of marriage will soon become one.
Though the tradition is for the bride’s family to host such an affair, in the modern age anyone can plan and host an engagement party. Just be sure that the couple is aware of the plans and can be involved, if they so choose, in the selecting of venue, food and wedding favors for the occasion. Plan the party two to three months from the engagement. Give the new couple time to embrace their decision.
Engagement parties can be as formal as a private dinner at an elegant restaurant, or as casual as a backyard BBQ, perhaps with swimsuits as the preferred attire. Perhaps a sunset party at the beach complete with sand castle tea light wedding favors would be the perfect choice for this special celebration.
Try to keep the guest list on the small side. Include family and friends of the couple and make sure these same guests are invited to the wedding. They will surely want to celebrate that special day as well. Gifts are not expected, but some people will want to bring them anyway. The couple may wish to register some of their less expensive items before the engagement party. If gifts do show up, just put them aside for later and enjoy the celebration.
